The Seven Lag Stevne is a yearly gathering of descendants of Norwegian immigrants who came from seven areas of Norway, in Buskerud, Oppland, and Telemark counties. Each of these areas is represented by an organization, or "lag" that works to maintain cultural ties to its ancestral homeland and provides support for genealogical research.
The following is information about the 2012 7-Lag Stevne:
The most poignant memories of our childhood usually involve the Christmas Holidays. And the Norwegian Christmas traditions are especially rich. We will be meeting to celebrate those family traditions as a part of our 2012 Stevne held at the Olympia Resort and Conference Center in Oconomowoc, WI.
Make your plans now to join us as we celebrate a Norwegian Christmas in July. The stevne will be held July 18th through the 21st and will include Norwegian Dancers from Toten, Norwegian Christmas treats, a collection of Christmas Carols sung in Norwegian with an opportunity to learn them and we might even have a Norwegian Christmas nisse. Make plans now, with your lag, to highlight your commune's traditions.
Each of our Norwegian areas were isolated enough so that they developed their own traditions that were eventually brought to the new world. In America, they became family traditions and were adapted to the available resources here and mingled with the celebrations of other Norwegians in the community. In Norway, the traditions have slowly changed too and we will have a chance to see how that happened.
While the weather forecast doesn't call for any snow, the conference center and the hotel are completely air conditioned for your comfort. The rooms are large and up to four adults can share a room at no additional cost.
You can fly into either Milwaukee or Madison with bus service seven times a day. We are working to arrange transportation directly to the conference Center. As all events, except the tours, will be at the center, there will be no need to rent a car.
